The Power of Natural Healing and Massage
As many of you know, Sirius has been on a challenging journey with Addison’s disease. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working hard to support her recovery through a carefully tailored herbal regimen. I’m happy to share that she’s made significant strides, showing increased energy, improved coat condition, and a brighter overall mood. Last week, we had a follow-up visit with the vet, who was pleased with Sirius’ progress and encouraged us to continue with the herbal treatments. However, her persistent shoulder pain required further attention, leading us down a new path of healing.
During our vet visit, the vet reaffirmed the effectiveness of the herbal treatments that have been central to Sirius’ recovery. While the vet prescribed an anti-inflammatory medication, specifically the dog equivalent of ibuprofen, to address her shoulder pain, the results were not as promising as I’d hoped. Despite giving the medication some time to work, Sirius’ limp remained, indicating that something more was needed.
That’s when I decided to reach out to my friend Angie, who is an experienced massage therapist. I wondered if she could help identify the root of Sirius’ shoulder issue. Angie visited us over the weekend and spent some time examining Sirius’ shoulder, immediately noticing that her left shoulder muscle was significantly more pronounced and solid compared to the right. Angie likened this to a “frozen shoulder,” a condition that can be incredibly painful and restrictive.
As Angie began to work her magic, it was clear that Sirius was a bit hesitant at first, but she quickly relaxed into the massage, she groaned and whimpered in pure delight. At one point, Sirius did snap slightly—a sign of her discomfort—but to her credit, she showed remarkable restraint and didn’t bite. This response was incredibly telling; it showed that while she was in pain, she trusted Angie and was willing to let her work on that troublesome area. By the end of the session, Sirius was not only calm but seemed to enjoy the attention and care she was receiving. As I write this, she’s sound asleep, snoring away—a testament to how relaxed and content she felt after the massage.
With the muscle tension identified, I decided to start applying my Camdessa pain cream to Sirius’ shoulder. This cream has been a staple in my herbal apothecary for a while now, and I’ve received wonderful feedback about its effectiveness in relieving pain. The cream contains a powerful blend of herbs and essential oils: meadowsweet for its anti-inflammatory properties, comfrey (rich in allantoin) to promote healing, arnica for bruising and pain, hypericum for nerve pain, and lavender and marjoram for their soothing effects. The cream also includes MSM, vitamin C, and castor oil to enhance its penetration and effectiveness.
Each of these ingredients was chosen for its specific therapeutic properties, making the cream an all-around powerhouse for pain relief. I’ve started massaging this cream into Sirius’ shoulder daily, in the same areas Angie worked on, and I’m optimistic that this will help loosen the muscle and reduce the pain she’s been experiencing.
It’s still early days, but I’m already seeing some encouraging signs. While Sirius’ limp isn’t completely gone, her movements seem less stiff, and she’s showing more willingness to use her left shoulder. The combination of Angie’s expert massage and the healing properties of the Camdessa cream seems to be working wonders. I’m hopeful that with continued care, Sirius will soon regain full mobility in her shoulder and be able to enjoy life with less pain. Angie is coming back in 3wks for a follow up massage, honestly my dog is more pampered than me.
Sirius’ journey with Addison’s disease and her shoulder pain has taught me a lot about the value of combining traditional veterinary care with holistic treatments like herbal medicine and massage. The vet’s approval of our herbal approach, paired with the recent addition of massage therapy and pain relief cream, underscores the importance of a well-rounded approach to healing.
While it’s been a long road, seeing Sirius’ progress has been incredibly rewarding. I’m committed to taking her healing slowly, allowing her body to adapt and recover naturally. If you’re considering natural options for your pet, remember that every animal is different. Always consult with a professional to guide you on the best course of action for your furry friend.
